On another CapRadio appearance for River Partners, we explore our acquisition of the 1,700-plus-acre Battle Creek Ranch, along the Sacramento River near Redding, and our restoration efforts that will create vital habitat for salmonids, raptors, songbirds, and mammals while improving floodplain function and biodiversity. Our Senior Director of Conservation John Cain joined including California Wildlife Conservation Board Executive Director Jennifer Norris and California Department of Fish and Wildlife Director Chuck Bonham to talk about the significance of this acquisition to the region and the state.
This acquisition is not only 1,700 acres, but it’s almost two miles along Battle Creek that is now protected forever for the people of California and the salmon. We just couldn’t do this without the [California] Wildlife Conservation Board … and the [California] Department of Fish and Wildlife. This has been 25 years in the making.”
