In summer 2024, River Partners teamed with scientists from Stanford University to try to gain a better understand how water moves from the surface to below the ground to refill depleted aquifers and increase water supplies critical to California’s environment, communities, and economy. After Stanford collected data using the cutting-edge towed time-domain electromagnetic (tTEM) imaging method, we are now getting some preliminary results. And rather than attempt to recharge the aquifers, River Partners Senior Restoration Science Ecologist Neil Wilson said the results will help us plan our future restoration projects to maximize that precious water.

“Most of the (water) release decisions are really based around supply needs and not so much wildlife. … We’re not going to get there with just a few big projects.”
